The Inspection

Very similar to a Red Tractor farm assurance audit – they check that farms are correctly registered for the appropriate Feed Hygiene Regulation, storage and preparation of animal feed, and items of cross compliance. However, they only carry out inspections on 4% of farms that are members of a Red Tractor scheme. They often act like dummy inspections. Unless you are seriously breaking regulations/law, you will not be referred to a DEFRA inspection.

The Trading Standards Officer will check:

  • Movement records
  • Vetinary and medicine book
  • Rat baiting plans/competency
  • Vetinary and medicine storage
  • Pesticide storage/ competency for spraying
  • Agricultural fuel storage
  • Feed storage and preparation equipment (e.g. mixer wagons)
  • Livestock transport (if transporting own)
  • Livestock housing and Welfare

If you need help with an inspection, contact our office.
